Fundamental

Our fundamental global equity strategies are positioned to be at the forefront of market changes, offering a diverse line-up in a variety of investment vehicles including mutual funds and separately managed accounts.

Our teams work together to understand the global perspective, while maintaining the autonomy required to leverage individual expertise and deliver on distinct investment philosophies. The autonomy afforded to our investment teams and diversity of opinion is a strength of our firm.

The AGF Global Equity Team incorporates a top-down country allocation framework coupled with bottom-up fundamental research to uncover quality companies that will reward investors over the long-term.

The team is culturally diverse with a broad range of industry backgrounds and experience. Our experience tells us this is a competitive advantage as it makes us conversant in the cultural nuances of the companies we invest in, while providing us with differentiated insights.

Philosophy

AGF’s Global Equity team embraces a deep set of shared beliefs about how markets work, our specific strengths and skill sets, and effective methods for portfolio construction. The most significant are:

  1. Active country allocation is a reliable source of excess return and managing risk. Country factors in developing markets frequently play a dominant and predictive role in security price changes.
  2. Focus on quality companies. We define quality companies as those that can grow and earn a return on investment greater than the cost of capital, that is, those that can generate positive Economic Value Added (EVA).
  3. Risk management is multi-faceted. Our methods primarily integrate a view on the optimal level of diversification with a solid understanding of the value of what we own.

Philosophy

AGF’s Sustainable Investing team believes strongly that:

  1. The world is transitioning to a sustainable economy and investors can benefit financially from this transition in addition to positively contributing to it through their allocation of capital.
  2. Industries evolve according to powerful themes and catalysts, not GIC sectors. To address key issues of sustainability, investors need to take a GICS-agnostic approach and embrace high active share.
  3. Markets are short-sighted and become reactive to themes. Investors can exploit these inefficiencies for financial gain by proactively investing in sustainable themes.
