INTECH's active strategies are based on mathematical approach that is the result of research done by Dr. E. Robert Fernholz and published in his 1982 paper, "Stochastic Portfolio Theory and Stock Market Equilibrium."
A mathematical algorithm is responsible for security selection. The investment process searches for stocks with high relative volatility and low correlation to build a portfolio that attempts to generate an excess return over the benchmark from which the stocks are drawn.
All decisions to include a stock in the portfolio begin with the process of applying the mathematical analysis to the universe of securities within the benchmark with benchmark-like risk to determine the target weightings. Once that has been accomplished, rebalancing may result in additional purchases or sales and a regular re-optimization will once again establish target weightings in stocks. Since the investment process is not fundamental in nature, no research analysts are employed.
