W. Robert Farquharson is Director and Vice-Chairman of AGF Management Limited, one of Canada’s premier investment management companies with operations across Canada and subsidiaries in Europe and Asia.
Bob is also Chairman of AGF Asset Management Asia Ltd. and AGF International Advisors Company Limited. He first joined AGF in 1963 as an Analyst and was promoted to Portfolio Manager in 1965. Bob became Vice-President of AGF Management Limited in 1973 and was appointed to the Board of Directors in 1977. From November 1987 to March 1991, he held the position of President of AGF Management Limited. In March 1991, he was appointed Vice-Chairman. Today, Bob is one of Canada’s leading investment managers with over four decades of experience. He believes that true wealth is built over long periods of time. His investment philosophy is to focus on companies with excellent management and long-term growth potential thereby minimizing turnover and maximizing superior returns through longer term investment strategies. As a Portfolio Manager, Bob uses a growth-oriented style emphasizing a bottom-up approach to stock selection. Stocks are selected based on their ability to generate above-average growth in earnings, sales and/or cash flow. Bob currently co-manages the AGF Global Resources Class, AGF Canadian Resources Fund, AGF Canadian Small Cap Fund, AGF Canadian Growth Equity Fund and AGF Precious Metals Fund, winner of the Precious Metals Equity Fund of the Year at the 2004, 2006 and 2007 Canadian Investment Awards. He is a Past Chair of the Investment Funds Institute of Canada (IFIC) and a Former Director of the Toronto Stock Exchange. A champion of education, Bob has been active over the years in various initiatives that support learning. In 2001, he made a contribution to U of T’s Victoria University library that today bears his name and provides students with access to computers. Bob was instrumental in the creation of the New Science Complex at the University of Guelph, where he served as co-chair of the Science Complex Campaign Cabinet until December of 2007. Currently, he continues his work with the university as a board member on the Development Committee and as a trustee with the Investment Committee. He is also involved with Toronto Community Living and is a Governor of the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) and chairs the Governors’ Finance Committee. Bob earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. Born and raised in Montreal, Bob enjoys farming and has a farm outside of Toronto. Bob and his wife, Gail, have three children. |
