| WORLD WILDLIFE FUND-CANADA |
AGF first began partnering with WWF-Canada in the 1980s to raise awareness about the Sumatran tiger – our corporate symbol.
A strong, agile and decisive species, the Sumatran tiger embodies qualities that are important to us as an investment management company. Over the years, we have worked with WWF-Canada to save the highly endangered Sumatran tiger and to educate the public about the WWF-Canada’s efforts to protect all endangered species – including a number of tiger species that are close to becoming extinct.
We also share WWF-Canada’s commitment to stopping the degradation of the planet’s natural environment and building a future in which we live in harmony with nature. We understand that a sustainable environment is good for business, our employees, our clients and society as a whole.
Over the decades AGF has been actively involved in various projects, including:
The creation of the WWF Wildlife Trade Program to protect the habitat and security of the Sumatran tigers and seven to 10 endangered sub-species.
The conservation of the Northwest Atlantic Eco-region.
The development of Marine Protected Areas.
AGF Chairman and CEO Blake Goldring has served on the WWF-Canada Board and worked to build awareness about WWF-Canada’s conservation efforts in his capacity at the National Club and throughout AGF’s Group of Companies as the leader of AGF Management Limited.
To mark the 50th anniversary of AGF and the 40th anniversary of WWF-Canada, we have committed an additional $500,000 over the next five years to support Canada’s Living Planet Achievements Fund. This fund is dedicated to protecting Canada’s freshwater, oceans, forests and ensuring endangered species continue to thrive in a healthy climate.
With this new contribution and through donations and other fundraising events, AGF has committed $1.06 million over the past two decades.
The fund supports WWF-Canada’s strategic focus on Canadian geographic areas identified by scientists as globally outstanding regions of biodiversity such as, Canada’s Atlantic Eco-region, Pacific Coast and Mackenzie River Basin.
