MARTIN HUBBES, CFA

Executive Vice-President and Chief Investment Officer
AGF Funds Inc.

Martin Hubbes was appointed Senior Vice-President and Chief Investment Officer of AGF Funds Inc. in June 2005. AGF Funds Inc. is one of several wholly-owned subsidiaries of AGF Management Limited, a premier global investment management firm based in Canada.

Today as Executive Vice-President and Chief Investment Officer of Funds Inc., Martin plays a pivotal role in guiding the future growth of AGF’s investment management operations and expertise. His chief responsibility is to provide the fund management team with the right tools to succeed and to monitor their performance to generate long-term sustainable returns for investors.

With more than 15 years of direct mutual fund experience, Martin brings a deep knowledge of AGF’s investment management strengths, continuity and vision to this role.

Martin remains fiercely committed to the concept of continuity and excellence in fund management. He believes that excellence in fund management comes from the quality of a firm’s research and the capabilities of its investment management teams to generate long-term sustainable fund performance. It is also derived from having a disciplined investment management process.

In addition to this mandate, Martin is the lead portfolio manager of AGF Canada Class, AGF Canadian Stock Fund and co-manager of AGF Global Health Sciences Fund. With a disciplined approach to choosing stocks, Martin believes that a portfolio manager’s job is not performance at any cost, but performance by minimizing risk.

After joining AGF in 1992 as an Investment Analyst, Martin was appointed Managing Director of AGF Management (Deutschland) GmbH in Berlin the following year. He returned to Canada in 1994 and became lead portfolio manager of AGF Canadian Stock Fund in 1996.

With a BSc and MSc in Biochemistry from the University of Toronto, Martin seemed destined for a career in the pharmaceutical industry. His decision to get an MBA from the Schulich School of Business at York University meant that he would have to spend four months working abroad. This led him to work for an AGF subsidiary in Germany and eventually apply for employment at AGF upon returning home to Canada.

Fluent in both French and German, Martin is a member of the Toronto CFA Society and managed AGF’s United Way campaign in 2006. Born and raised in Quebec City, Martin now makes his home in Toronto with his partner, Suzanne.
